The following technical reports, while in some
cases 30 years old, include some important background on the subject of
Ophthalmic Lens abrasion resistance testing. Subsquent to this period, experts
continued to study this subject and the ISO still studies this topic today. One
conclusion reached by the 1979 is what experts have again concluded (page 4 of
report):
"Review of information lead to the firm conclusion that there is now no known single test which, from laboratory data, ranks abrasion resistance of lenses even in the order that actual use ranks them, to say nothing of rating them some numerical scale in agreement with use test results."
