Presidents Eyeglasses

US Presidents and their Eyeglasses

President Eisenhower

Download pdf of info from the Eisenhower Library on his eyesight

Dear Mr. Whitney,

I have looked through our collections and found two groups of documents that might be useful to you.

First, Dr. Thomas Mattingly, who served as President Eisenhower's cardiologist from 1952-1958 and 1968-1969 compiled and wrote a comprehensive medical history for Eisenhower.  There is a two-page narrative titled "Dwight D. Eisenhower, Diseases of the Eye, Abnormalities of Vision" that summarizes this subject.  Also, in 1947 General Eisenhower corresponded with Dr. Malcolm Grow about whether he might benefit from using prescription Polaroid sunglasses, either bifocal or single-vision, for hunting.

Sincerely,
